Refund Policy

Last updated 2026-09-03

Groceries are perishable and most are sold by weight, so refunds work a little differently than for a shipped box. This page explains how.

1. How to ask

Open the order on your Orders page and use "Contact the shop". Describe the problem and, if you can, add a photo. Do this as soon as you notice — ideally the day you receive the goods. Fresh food problems reported days later are hard for anyone to judge.

You can also email support@everygrocer.com with the order number if you cannot reach the shop owner.

2. Who decides

The shop owner sold you the goods and is the first to respond. Shop owners can refund an order in full or in part. everygrocer can also step in and refund a card order — for example if a shop owner is unresponsive, an order was never handed over, or there was a platform error.

For card orders the refund goes back to the card you paid with, normally within 5–10 business days depending on your bank. Zelle and Venmo payments were never received by everygrocer; only the shop owner can return that money, and they do so directly to you.

3. Weighed items and estimates

Items priced "by weight, weighed after ordering" show an estimated range before you pay. The final price is the shop owner's weighed amount at the listed per-weight price. A final price within the listed range is not grounds for a refund. If the weighed amount falls outside the range shown, or you believe the weight is wrong, contact the shop.

Fixed-price items that mention an approximate weight (for example "about 4–5 lb") are sold by the piece; the weight is a guide, not a promise.

4. What is usually refunded

Goods that were spoiled, damaged or clearly not as described at hand-over; items missing from your order; orders the shop owner did not fulfil; duplicate charges.

5. What is usually not refunded

Fresh goods that were fine at hand-over and spoiled afterwards; orders you did not pick up during the pickup window (the shop owner prepared and set aside perishable goods for you); change of mind after weighing has been done or the order has been prepared; natural variation in produce.

Prepared food that has been cut into or partly eaten is generally not refundable unless it was unsafe.

6. Cancellations

You can cancel an order before the shop owner has weighed or prepared it by contacting the shop. Zelle/Venmo orders that are not paid within 24 hours are cancelled automatically and the stock is released.

7. Platform fees

When an order is refunded in full, the platform commission is returned with it. Card processing costs that the card network keeps are not recoverable and are borne by the platform, not deducted from your refund.
